Tips For Preventing Fraud

If you are doing a lot of advertising on the Internet, it's important you are aware of fraud prevention tactics. Unfortunately, many hackers and other undesirable clients will attempt to setup hosting accounts with stolen credit card numbers. If you are advertising hosting on the web we highly recommend you use the "Moderate" feature in H-Sphere to moderate all orders you receive online before approving them.

You can set this under the "Settings" link in your Administrative Control Panel. When you have orders set to be moderated, you will still receive an email when they signup. You then click on "Signup" --> "Moderate" from your Admin. CP. There you can look at the order and create or delete it. Usually you can get a good idea if it's legitimate or not by looking at where it came from, checking the email address (be wary or Yahoo and Hotmail addresses), etc. You can also do a lookup on the IP address it was submitted from which is recorded on the order form. A good place to use for looking up IP addresses and getting all relevant information is:

If you find that the IP is from Asia and the customer is supposedly from Hoboken, NJ, for example, you know you are dealing with a bogus order.
